Why we homeschool

The purpose of education is to receive instruction towards a specific goal. I have a very different opinion about what this goal should be versus what is taught in traditional school, which is the outdated model of a people training to become cogs in a wheel in a factory environment.

Proverbs 9:9 says “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.” Modern education requires students to become masters of deep or specialized topics, oriented towards people and excellence, and able to navigate (on many occasions) in a world which is shrinking due to globalization.

Proverbs 22:29 says “Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.” Thus education, is to create a skilled people, approved by God, hungry for wisdom and a life-long learner. Proverbs 14:15 says “The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” We have to produce honest and deep thinkers who back their convictions with quiet and strong action.
